Come to the Table

OneCompassion’s mission is to build up our local community, and we believe one of the best ways to do that is to bring our neighbors together for a free hot meal! On Wednesday, December 12, over 30 volunteers came together before the event to prepare, pray that the room would be full and everyone would come and know that they are seen and cared for, and serve the meal. That prayer was answered and over 100 people gathered behind the OneCompassion office to enjoy a free, hot meal at OneTable. OneTable is a neighborhood event series designed to encourage togetherness, community, inclusiveness and compassion.

The impact.

This event series impacts relationships as it provides our community members with the opportunity to meet new people and build friendships in an inclusive, encouraging environment. Children are welcome and are able to feel safe and cared for at OneTable events, as well. With a bounce house, popcorn machine, bubble machine, and chalk, OneTable allows kids to “be kids”! For many of our guests, a hot meal is a gift. As they leave, we send guests home with to-go meals as a way to provide them another hearty, full meal. Our hope is that our community leaves OneTable with full bellies and full hearts!

The next OneTable event will be Thursday, January 10 from 5-7 at the same location, behind the Paper Co at 114 W Main St, Clayton.

Surprising 33 families with help for Christmas

OneCompassion’s vision is that no family in Johnston County goes without a Christmas. Through our Holiday Ministry, we want families to experience the joy of giving and receiving grace and compassion just as we have. For this reason, we enable parents to bless their own families with a decorated home, Christmas gifts, and food for a Christmas meal and the holiday break. We will continue to support the families as they are invited to our OneTable monthly events, which start on December 12th from 5-7 at The Paper Co building – 114 W Main St.

The project.

On December 14th, 2018, OneCompassion and our volunteer teams will be making deliveries to 33 families who, without the help of the community, would be without a Christmas. Trucks will be loaded up with trees, lights, and decorations to deck the halls, food for the holiday, and Christmas wishlist items for every member in the family. We are coordinating the delivery with parents so that they can truly be the ones to give Christmas to their family. After months of preparation, volunteer work, and vendor support, the deliveries will be gathered, packaged, and on their way. The project will be completed thanks to a partnership with Lowe’s Home Improvement (Garner, NC), missional communities at Generation Church, and community volunteers who have been eager to help by shopping or sponsoring.

The impact.

Everyone has had moments where no matter how hard they try, it is hard to make ends meet. Whether the 33 families are in crisis or just need a hand to help close the gap, OneCompassion is fulfilling its mission to impact and develop people this December through our Holiday Ministry. Along with impacting the families who will be receiving the delivery, we also highly value mobilizing the community to work together and support each other. Many hands make light work, and each project leaves a greater impact when both recipients and volunteers see how the community is ready and eager to support others and build up Johnston County together. For the project to truly come full circle, we are inviting community members to contribute with an assortment of opportunities: hosting a donation drive, shopping for families, financially sponsoring the project, offering in-kind donations, and joining along for delivery day.
